Pre-Encounter Teaching #4

John 3:31-32 “To the Jews who had believed Him, Jesus said, “If you hold to my teaching, you are really my disciples.  Then you will know the truth and the truth will set you free”…So if the Son makes you free, you will be free indeed.”

I.    Jesus paid a great price for your and my freedom.

Isaiah 53:4-6

Free- to remove an encumbrance or obstruction; set at liberty, rescue, release from slavery, captivity, confinement.

Free indeed – Emphatically- in reality, in truth, in fact.

II.    Jesus wants us to know and experience freedom – in reality, in truth, in fact.

He wants us to realize that He can and is willing to break any bondage or strongholds in our lives .  Isaiah 61:1 “The Spirit of the Lord God is upon Me, because the Lord has anointed me to preach good tidings to the poor; He has sent Me to heal the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives, and the opening of prison to those who are bound.”  Knowing He can and will is the beginning of  freedom.

III.    Sin created bondage curse,  and captivity.- death.  Immediate ramifications – Adam and Eve, Cain and Abel, etc.  Gen. 2:5  “Then the Lord saw that the wickedness of man was great on the earth, and that every intent of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually.

We now are subject through the fall of mankind to the curse of sin.

Jeremiah 17:9  “The heart is more deceitful than all else, and is desperately sick; who can understand it?”

IV.    BUT, Galatians 3:13 “Christ has redeemed us from the curse of the law, having become a curse for us—for it is written, ‘cursed is everyone who hangs on a tree.”

There is a cure to our desperate state.  He has made provision for our freedom.

I John 3:8  “The Son of God appeared for this purpose, to destroy the works of the devil.”

Questions:  Is depression a work of the devil?

Is bitterness a work of the devil?

Are broken families a work of the devil?

Is sickness a work of the devil?

Is selfishness a work of the devil?

Is loneliness a work of the devil?

Is hatred a work of the devil?

Is insecurity a work of the devil?

Is fear a work of the devil?

Is poverty a work of the devil?

Are addictions a work of the devil?

Is lust a work of the devil.

If there is a promise of God to the contrary or a command to not partake of these things,  then these things are Satan’s schemes to keep us from experiencing God’s fullness in salvation.

Jesus was manifest to DESTROY the works of the devil.

V.    Deliverance is complete when we feel that the oppression of past curses no longer hold us, when vices do not dominate us, when we are free from the strongholds of our ancestors and when we feel God freely flowing through our lives.  If not the case,  we need more liberation.  The Encounter is a tool:  Opens our heart to a time of deep repentance, authority in Christ and breaking the chains of Satan.  Not a one-time cure all.  I still need deliverance and freedom.  Every opportunity- seek freedom.  Run to it—run to Him.  Not from Him.

VI.    Not about giving emphasis or attention to Satan, but recognizing his schemes and taking the authority we have rightfully been given over them.

Military campaign- study enemy;

Sports- study opponent;

Know their tactics and battle plans.

I Peter 5:8,9  “Be of sober spirit, be on the alert.  Your adversary, the devil, prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour.  But resist him, firm in the faith.”

Luke 9:1, 2  And He called the twelve together, and gave them power and authority over all the demons and to heal diseases.  And He sent them out to proclaim the Kingdom of God and to perform healing.”

VII.    The Encounter is about seeing the cross, about receiving forgiveness, about agreeing with God as He destroys the works of the devil, about the authority we have been given by Christ.

VIII.    The cross became the mortal weapon used against our adversary and the kingdom of darkness.  The death of Christ became our death.   There all our debts were cancelled.  All the rage and retribution of Satan were crushed by Jesus.  The cross alone can set man free from slavery to sin, Satan's oppression and the consequences of the curse.   I Cor 1:18 “For the message of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God.”

PREPARING FOR DELIVERANCE & ENCOUNTER:

  1. Desire to live in freedom.  God is willing to deliver us.  He gave us the means to be delivered in Christ, but man has to desire it with his own will.
  2. Identify causes for bondage.  Psalm 139:23-24 “Search me, O God, and know my heart, test me and know my anxious thoughts.  See if there is any offensive way in me and lead me in the way everlasting.”
  3. Seek repentance  Deliverance not substitute for repentance.
  4. Come expecting – Faith
  5. Prayer and fasting

“Therefore if the Son makes you free, you shall be free indeed.”
